About the role

The Groundskeeper is responsible for performing routine grounds maintenance, light construction, and cleaning tasks essential to the operation and upkeep of the Virginia State Park facilities, grounds, and equipment at Chippokes State Park.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain bathhouses, campsites, and facilities.
• Mow grass and perform general grounds keeping landscape maintenance tasks.
• Remove leaves, trash, and litter from park areas to ensure a clean and safe environment.
• Perform basic maintenance and routine care on vehicles, tools, and equipment.
• Assist with additional maintenance and operational tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Work involves standing, bending, and regular exposure to outdoor elements. Availability to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evening shifts is required.

Requirements

• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Willingness to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
• Ability to perform or assist with basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and masonry tasks.

Qualifications

Knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and masonry is preferred but not required.

Additional Considerations

• Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
• Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form (DCR participates in E-Verify).
• Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
