Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and oversee Tennessee's new Meat Inspection Program
- Work directly with industry groups, producers, and partner agencies to support food safety
- Cook up inspections and program activities through a mix of field and office work
- Provide leadership, guidance, and oversight for program operations and staff
- Monitor program effectiveness and make improvements as the program is piloted and expanded
About the role
The Tennessee Department of Agriculture's State Meat Inspection Program falls under the Division of Consumer & Industry Services, or CIS. CIS oversees numerous licensing and inspection programs, many of which fall under state/federal cooperative agreements or must satisfy other federal requirements.
Requirements
Must have a bachelor's degree in a related field such as food science, public health, or a related area, and five years of progressively responsible experience in meat inspection, food safety, or a related field.
Qualifications
Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel to various locations throughout the state.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
