About the role

As the Income/Franchise Tax Manager, you’ll deliver a full range of tax planning, consulting, and compliance services for multiple clients with the resources, environment, and support to help you excel. You’ll collaborate with the Income/Franchise team and lead staff on various tax matters, managing all phases of project and engagement management. Responsibilities

  • Manage, direct, and monitor multiple client services teams on client engagements; plan, execute, direct, and complete tax projects across a wide variety of industries.
  • Provide tax planning, consulting, and compliance expertise to clients, including managing budgets.
  • Manage, develop, train, and mentor staff on tax projects and assess performance for engagement and year-end reviews.
  • Deliver a full range of State and Local Tax (SALT) services, including tax return preparation and review, tax research, preparation of technical memorandums, drafting client correspondence, and counseling clients in defending against state audits.
  • Manage multi-disciplinary, multi-state reviews analyzing income, franchise, sales and use, payroll, ad valorem taxes, and others to identify optimal filing options, exemptions, credits, incentives, and corporate structures to reduce clients' tax burdens.
  • Consult, work with, and service clients to make recommendations on business and process improvements, serving as a business advisor.
  • Support business development activities, such as identification, proposal development, and other pursuit activities at clients.
  • Travel as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum six years of progressive tax compliance and/or tax consulting experience.
  • Active CPA license, JD with active law license in good standing, or Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple project tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong computer skills.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is between $138,000 and $172,500. Placement within the pay range is at Grant Thornton’s discretion and based on factors including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, progression within the role, geographic location, and internal equity.
