About the role
The State Aid Programs Engineer - Engineer Principal leads the operations of the State Aid Section within the Metro District Office of State Aid. This includes ensuring that construction plans submitted by Local Agencies for State Aid funding comply with state aid rules, design standards, and practices, and that only eligible items are designated for State Aid funding. Additionally, this position participates in County and Municipal Screening Board activities, reviews and approves Municipal State Aid Street and County State Aid Highway system changes, and certifies annual mileage and Construction Needs.
Responsibilities
- Guides the State Aid Section to ensure construction plans conform to state aid rules, design standards, and practices.
- Reviews and advises clients on project plans, reports, specifications, estimates, and State Aid funding.
- Manages and directs staff, providing oversight and evaluating staff performance.
- Collaborates with local agencies to execute engineering projects.
- Participates in County and Municipal Screening Board activities.
- Reviews and approves Municipal State Aid Street and County State Aid Highway system changes.
- Certifies annual mileage and Construction Needs.
Requirements
- Licensure as a professional engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity.
- Three years of engineering experience (Engineer Senior or equivalent) that demonstrates thorough knowledge of state aid rules and eligibility, project management experience, and ability to review and advise clients on project plans, reports, specifications, estimates, and State Aid funding.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supervising or serving as a lead worker, including providing oversight and work direction and evaluating staff.
- Experience working collaboratively with local agencies to execute engineering projects.
