Job Summary
The Starter Shack Attendant is responsible for providing outstanding customer service while operating the starter shack and supporting daily golf course operations.
This position serves as a point of sale for beverages, snacks, and golf-related merchandise while ensuring efficient player check-in and timely pace of play.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or G.E.D. preferred
- Previous retail, customer service, hospitality, or golf course experience preferred
- Experience operating a point-of-sale system preferred
- Must be able to obtain any certifications required for the sale and service of alcoholic beverages
Employment Requirements
- Applicant will be subject to a complete background investigation
- Incomplete, inaccurate and/or failure to report information will cause the applicant rejection from consideration
- Applicant must take and pass a pre-employment drug, physical and pre-placement screening administered by the City of Mission appointed physician at the City’s expense
- Applicant must have a current valid class “C” driver license from the Department of Public Safety with no more than two (2) moving traffic violations within the past two (2) years

- Knowledge of the game of golf and golf course etiquette is preferred
- Ability to accurately operate a point-of-sale system and handle cash transactions

- Ability to work in varying weather conditions for extended periods
Essential Job Functions
- Operate the starter shack in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner
- Sell beer, alcoholic beverages (as authorized), soft drinks, bottled water, snacks, ice, and golf merchandise using the point-of-sale (POS) system
- Maintain accurate cash handling procedures, reconcile sales, and prepare daily reports
- Verify age and comply with all applicable laws and policies regarding the sale of alcoholic beverages
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels and notify management when restocking is needed
- Keep the starter shack clean, organized, stocked, and presentable at all times
- Provide exceptional customer service by greeting guests, answering questions, and assisting golfers
- Cookie, monitor tee time flow, and communicate with the Pro Shop regarding player arrivals and course conditions
- Perform starter duties by organizing groups, maintaining scheduled tee times, explaining course rules, and ensuring an efficient pace of play
- Perform marshal duties by monitoring golfer pace of play, enforcing course policies, promoting safety, and assisting guests throughout the course
- Cross-train and perform the duties of a Pro Shop Clerk, including customer check-in, reservations, merchandise sales, and customer inquiries
- Assist with golf cart operations, including staging, cleaning, fueling/charging, and preparing carts for customer use when assigned
- Assist with tournaments, leagues, special events, and promotional activities
- Monitor customer satisfaction and promptly communicate concerns or operational issues to management
- Follow all City and Golf Course policies, safety procedures, and customer service standards
- Perform routine opening and closing duties for assigned work areas
- Assist with revenue-generating initiatives and promotions designed to enhance the customer experience
- Frequently stand and walk for extended periods
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive movements
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, wind, and rain
- Ability to operate golf carts and other light equipment as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the golf course
Non-Essential Job Functions
- Assists/runs golf tournaments and or leagues
Manual Dexterity
- Both fine and gross hand manipulation is required to perform essential job functions
- Fine hand manipulation is utilized to document information
- Gross hand manipulation is required to input data in computer
