START Family Peer Supporter

Essential Functions

  • Participates as an active member of the Ohio START team.
  • Works jointly with the Ohio START case worker and behavioral health provider to ensure seamless and efficient delivery of intensive wrap-around services to the START families on the caseload and to assist with the safety of the child(ren).
  • Participates in initial meetings, weekly status meetings, and Family Team Meetings to review families' progress.
  • Provides continual exploration of family’s needs to empower the family to take ownership over their long-term successes and the safety of the child(ren).
  • Sustains support to the parent(s) in achieving personal independence.
  • Connects START families to community resources.
  • Teaches families skills to effectively navigate the child welfare system.
  • Assists families with identifying and accessing natural support systems in the community.
  • Promotes coordination and linkage among providers within local community.
  • Coordinates or provides assistance in crisis interventions and stabilization of families.
  • Aids families to develop empowerment skills through promoting self-advocacy.
  • Identifies barriers (internal and external) to full participation in community resources and develops strategies to overcome those barriers.
  • Provides input on court forms, as needed.
  • Provides input on development of the case plan and child safety.

Minimum Requirements

  • Have earned a minimum education level of GED.
  • Lived experience with child welfare servicers as a parent or child.
  • Minimum 3 years quality recovery from Substance Use Disorder.
  • Experience working with resources in Adams County preferred.
  • Familiarity of community health & human service systems.
  • Able to effectively communicate through verbal/written expression.
  • Can effectively operate in an Internet-based, electronic health record (EHR) and other data environments.
  • Demonstrate long term recovery (at least 2 years is required, three years is preferred) from a SUD.
  • Demonstrate no ongoing criminal activity.
  • Have lived experience with the child welfare system either as a parent or child, with the case closed at least one year or if do not have direct CPS experience, be able to describe how your substance use affected your children and family.
  • Maintain a current driver’s license.
