Compensation Range: $18.00 - $25.14 per hour. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities

• Portrays characteristics of a patient, family member, health care team member, etc., for the purpose of training and/or assessing health care students and professionals.
• Undergoes interviews and/or physical examination by healthcare trainees or professionals, utilizing scripted materials to portray the specifics of a patient or scenario, including personal history, symptoms, emotional characteristics, and concerns of patients or family members.
• In a non-biased manner, portrays various roles and demeanors, providing an opportunity for health care students and providers to practice or refine communication and examination skills in a safe learning environment before utilizing these skills on actual patients.
• Provides constructive written and verbal feedback, from a patient's perspective, regarding interactions with the learner, specifically concerning conduct, communication skills, and medical assessment.
• Consistently and accurately portrays various medical scenarios or cases during mock interviews, live/taped demonstrations, and/or physical examinations.
• Responds to basic medical history questions in a standardized manner and improvises appropriately as needed when an interview and/or exam does not go as scripted.
• Maintains confidentiality of information related to cases, student behaviors, and evaluations.
• Undergoes repeated physical examination maneuvers performed on self, including wearing a hospital gown with only undergarments underneath while on camera and/or observed live.
• Utilizes body to instruct learners on the correct techniques for performing examinations such as Neurological, Abdominal, Head & Neck, Cardiovascular, Pulmonary, and Musculoskeletal.
• Undergoes repeated ultrasound examination maneuvers performed on self, with the specific body part under examination exposed (genitalia will consistently remain covered).
• Utilizes body to instruct learners on the correct techniques for performing ultrasound examinations such as Abdominal, Cardiovascular, Pulmonary, and Musculoskeletal.
• Memorizes case scenarios and simulates details, including chief medical complaint(s), symptoms, past medical history, physical exam results, body language, emotional state, behaviors, and personality of the role being portrayed.
• Completes standardized patient orientation and ongoing training sessions, which may include live, online, and self-study components.
• Participates in group training and/or mentorship of newly hired standardized patients.
• Provides educationally constructive verbal feedback to learners and receives feedback from supervisors/trainers to incorporate into future sessions.
• Demonstrates objectivity when interacting with and rating learners.
• Covers main office phones, responds to basic inquiries, and completes other administrative functions in support of departmental operations as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 6 months of work or volunteer experience preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in theatre, a medical field, or education preferred.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions required.
• Ability to receive instruction and consistently simulate a case scenario in an accurate, reliable, and professional manner required.
• Strong communication skills, both written and spoken, and strong reading and writing skills to absorb and use detailed case training and exam procedural information required.
• Ability to accurately portray a wide range of roles and scenarios and remain in character throughout the interaction with the learner required.
• Organization, reliability, and punctuality required.
• Fluency in more than one language preferred.
• Willing and able to work a varied, flexible schedule preferred.
