Stand-up comedian

About the role

A stand-up comedian writes and performs original comic material for live audiences, developing a personal voice, point of view, and act through constant writing and stage time. Much of the craft is iterative: testing jokes, refining wording and timing, and reading how rooms respond night after night. Performance is live and unrepeatable—comedians adapt in the moment to the crowd, hecklers, and the room's energy. The career is entrepreneurial and self-directed, built over years through clubs, tours, and increasingly recorded and online specials.
