About the role
We are seeking an experienced tax professional with an entrepreneurial mindset to lead and grow our Stand-Alone 1040 Practice. This role offers the opportunity to build a practice, develop a team, strengthen client relationships, and play a key leadership role within the firm. You will bring strong technical expertise in individual taxation along with leadership, organizational, and business development skills to take ownership of a growing practice.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the firm's Stand-Alone 1040 practice and help establish its long-term vision and strategy.
- Develop and implement processes, workflows, and best practices to support an efficient and scalable practice.
- Identify opportunities to grow the practice, expand services, and strengthen the firm's individual tax client base.
- Prepare and review complex individual income tax returns, including high-net-worth and multi-state individual returns.
- Serve as a technical resource and mentor for tax professionals on the team.
- Ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with applicable federal and state tax laws.
- Research and resolve complex individual tax issues.
- Stay current on changes in tax legislation, regulations, and industry developments.
- Build, lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing 1040 tax team.
- Manage workloads, workflow, deadlines, and resource allocation throughout the tax season and beyond.
- Establish expectations and processes that promote quality, efficiency, and accountability.
- Provide coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities to team members.
- Help recruit and identify talent as the practice continues to grow.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with individual tax clients.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for key clients.
- Understand client needs and identify opportunities to provide additional tax and advisory services.
- Participate in client meetings and help build long-term relationships.
- Contribute to business development and practice growth initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA license preferred; EA or other relevant tax credentials will also be considered.
- Significant experience preparing and reviewing individual income tax returns.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state individual taxation.
- Experience with complex individual tax returns, including high-net-worth clients, multiple states, trusts, investments, or other complex tax situations.
- Previous experience leading, mentoring, or managing tax professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple clients, priorities, workflows, and deadlines.
- Strong client relationship and communication skills.
