About the role

Form Energy is hiring a Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of LV and HV harness mechanical architecture for large battery systems. This role reports to the HV & LV Systems Design team. As part of our team, you will lead wire harness mechanical routing, connector selection, cable specification, and 2D drawings in collaboration with mechanical and electrical teams. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and be part of the growth of a fast-moving company with breakthrough technology and an incredible mission! Relocation assistance is available.

Responsibilities

  • Develop LV & HV harness design from early concept phase all the way through production, and support post-production ramp-up and cost-down efforts for electromechanical battery systems
  • Lead cross-functional alignment between Mechanical, Electrical, Sensor, Harness, Structural, Assembly, and Supply Chain teams; perform trade-off studies between function, performance, cost, and DFM/DFA
  • Identify, evaluate, select, and procure harness components for high-volume production
  • Create 3D routing in CAD and sync with harness tools such as Zuken to generate final assembly drawings for fabrication
  • Work with external suppliers and internal cross-functional teams (quality, supply chain, manufacturing, etc.) to take 3D designs to physical product for development
  • Design harness for harsh environmental conditions (e.g., high pollution degree, ingress protection)
  • Help create Design and Quality standards for wire harnesses specific to Form’s battery applications

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant harness mechanical design experience
  • Knowledge of battery systems, high-voltage systems, EMC strategies, and communications protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet)
  • Proficient in Catia, NX, or SolidWorks for both harness and general mechanical design, as well as basic mechanical and thermal simulations
  • Solid mechanical engineering fundamentals: thermal, vibration, durability, corrosion prevention, materials, etc.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in handling multiple priorities, proactively organizing workloads, and meeting tight delivery timelines
  • Detail-oriented personality with effective documentation and reporting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with GD&T and design for high-volume manufacturing
  • Zuken harness design experience

Benefits

  • Competitive salaries and stock options
  • 100% coverage of medical, dental, and vision premiums for full-time employees (80% for dependents) starting on day one
  • At least 12 weeks of paid leave for new parents (up to 20 weeks for birthing parents)
