Job Summary
Demonstrates specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in training and mentoring team members in the use of test lab equipment control systems in support of product and systems engineering, advanced innovation, long-term technology development, and quality initiatives within Product Development Engineering. Impacts the achievement of various regulatory testing that enables Harley-Davidson Motor Company to support the worldwide availability of its products.
Job Responsibilities
- Resolves complex problems involving test criteria, test standards, application of test methods, and analysis of test results.
- Deep expertise in analyzing, compiling, and reporting quality test results to engineering in a timely manner.
- Develops new techniques using state-of-the-art technologies, develops current tests, and improves processes to reduce test and product development time.
- Works independently, requiring guidance on only the most complex situations while successfully applying instrumentation tools and techniques and providing high-quality test data through detailed understanding of transducer designs, calibration, limitations, and their appropriate usage.
- Strict adherence to and leads others within own and across other departments in the 5S concept and all other supporting Continuous Improvement methods.
- Applies and communicates difficult concepts such as statistical analysis in daily work and negotiates with others to effectively influence Root Cause Analysis (e.g., Cause Map, Fishbone, etc.) as appropriate within own and across departments.
- Develops new (component, system, or vehicle) test methods to evaluate new failure modes or a new component/system.
- Deep understanding or may lead functional teams or projects in correlation between field, track, road, or laboratory testing with a goal of shortening test times.
Education Requirements
- This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related technical degree or PE license.
Experience Requirements
- Proficient with NVH data acquisition and analysis
- Proficient with Siemens Test Lab
- Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience
- Demonstrated ability to lead a group and/or team and provide guidance to other employees such as engineers, technical specialists, mechanics, and riders.
Preferred
- Knowledge of engines, transmission, and drivetrain noise and vibration analysis
- Knowledge of sound quality analysis
Pay Range
$119,300 - $184,800
