About the role

The Emerson Test & Measurement/National Instruments (NI) Transportation Business Unit (TBU) Customer Centric Solutions (CCS) Team is seeking to hire a Staff Systems Design Engineer (Electrical) to work on custom solution projects.

Responsibilities

  • Work with NI engineering teams, customers, sales personnel, partners, and contract manufacturers to define, design, document, deploy and sustain NI systems tailored to meet specific customer requirements for turnkey engineering solutions.
  • Interact with a wide variety of NI customers, NI staff, external partners and suppliers in support of designing, implementing and sustaining of custom solutions.
  • Specify and define system configurations and electrical/electronic designs as part of turn-key systems and solution, including parts and component selection.
  • Define electrical interfaces within a system and design related custom components and cables.
  • Prototype, test, and deploy turnkey automated solutions in the Automotive industry.
  • Travel as needed (possibly up to 25%) domestically and abroad in support of project objectives.

Qualifications

  • B. S. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics or Electronics Engineering Technology.
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience in a Hardware Systems Design, Electrical Engineering, or Test Engineering Design Role.
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering, electronics & computer architectures.
  • Familiarity with high-level programming languages (LabVIEW, TestStand, C/C++/C#).
  • Demonstrated understanding of the following concepts and principles:
    • Appropriate selection of instrumentation and equipment to meet system requirements.
    • Understanding of schematics, wiring diagrams, and signal routing.
    • Measurement methodologies and sources of measurement error.
    • Integration of hardware and software.
    • Bill of Materials creation and review.
    • Familiarity with CAD and electrical/electronic design tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands on use of schematic capture tools and PCB design tools.
  • Knowledge in component supplier selection.
  • Hands on use of NI Hardware Platforms and Instruments.
  • SolidWorks Electrical with 3D plugin.
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers and internal Manufacturing groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
