Staff Software Engineer - Services Platform

For our client, we are seeking a Staff Software Engineer - Services Platform to join the team of a leader in the Finance & Insurance space. This role will shape the architecture and operating model for a critical internal services platform that supports deployment, communication, identity, and reliability across engineering teams. You will partner closely with product engineers, infrastructure stakeholders, and compliance partners to improve how services are built, observed, and operated in a regulated environment. The position calls for a pragmatic platform leader who can drive adoption through strong defaults, scalable patterns, and thoughtful technical judgment. Success in this role will reduce operational complexity while enabling more teams to ship and support services confidently. Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available Compensation: $239,000 – $298,800 annually Responsibilities Define and build the platform for deploying and operating services Own the strategy for the service ecosystem, including identity and communication Collaborate with stakeholders to create a streamlined deployment path with strong defaults Evolve the service runtime architecture while maintaining existing services' health Make observability self-service for product engineers to debug systems independently Partner with teams to ensure infrastructure compliance with financial regulations Identify and address high-leverage gaps in the services ecosystem for pragmatic improvements Establish patterns to support more services without increasing operational complexity Qualifications Deep experience operating Kubernetes in production environments Designed or owned service-to-service authentication and service discovery infrastructure Experience building self-service observability or operational tooling for engineers Strong opinions on platform design with sound judgment on when to build Ability to view internal platforms as products, focusing on adoption and usability Skilled in gaining alignment across diverse teams without creating friction Clear communicator of technical tradeoffs and their implications Benefits Equity options and RSUs as part of the total rewards package Highly competitive salary ranges within the SaaS and fintech industry Regular updates to compensation based on reliable industry survey data Our client is an equal opportunity employer.
