Staff Software Engineer SAP Store Ops Solutions
About the role
The Staff Software Engineer, Inventory & Receiving Solutions designs, builds, and configures the technical solutions that support store inventory management, purchasing, and receiving processes—including Distribution Center (DC) and Direct Store Delivery (DSD) receiving—within SAP S/4 IS-Retail. This role translates business and store operations requirements into scalable SAP configuration and integration solutions to ensure accurate inventory visibility, purchasing accuracy, and reliable receiving processes across store locations. The position supports supply chain continuity, reduces shrink and stockouts, and drives operational efficiency by maintaining product availability and real-time stock information.
This is a hybrid role requiring 3 in-person days at our Salisbury, NC office and 2 remote days. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and configure SAP S/4 IS-Retail solutions for inventory management, purchasing, and receiving to ensure accurate inventory tracking and reliable processes at the store level.
- Develop and maintain integrations between store systems (Handhelds, DC/DSD receiving platforms) and SAP using SAP Integration Suite or equivalent middleware for timely and accurate data flow.
- Configure and support purchasing processes within SAP (e.g., purchase orders, vendor replenishment, automated ordering) to ensure accurate and timely procurement of store inventory.
- Design and configure DC and DSD receiving solutions within S/4 IS-Retail to ensure inventory is accurately received, recorded, and reconciled against purchase orders.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in inventory, purchasing, and receiving system flows to minimize stock inaccuracies and receiving errors impacting store operations.
- Partner with Business/Systems Analysts and Store Operations stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical designs.
- Design and execute unit, integration, and performance testing for inventory, purchasing, and receiving solutions prior to deployment.
- Document technical designs, configurations, and integration architecture to ensure maintainability and knowledge transfer.
- Participate in system implementations, upgrades, and rollouts involving S/4 IS-Retail inventory, purchasing, and receiving functionality.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Supply Chain, or related field; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Minimum 7-10 years of software engineering experience with progressively increasing technical responsibility (Level IV/Senior scope).
- Minimum 3 full-cycle SAP implementations involving inventory management, purchasing, and/or receiving solutions, including experience with SAP Activate methodology.
- Experience designing and configuring integrations using SAP Integration Suite (or equivalent middleware/iPaaS platform).
- Experience with RELEX and/or Forecasting & Replenishment (F&R) systems supporting demand planning and automated inventory replenishment.
- Experience with EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) transactions supporting vendor/supplier processes (e.g., purchase orders, invoices, advance ship notices).
- Experience with Store Handheld device integrations supporting in-store merchandise and inventory management.
Skills
- Strong working knowledge of SAP S/4HANA IS-Retail, including inventory management, purchasing, and receiving modules.
- Experience configuring DC and DSD receiving processes within SAP.
- Experience with purchasing/procurement configuration (purchase orders, vendor replenishment, automated ordering).
- Strong working knowledge of SAP S/4HANA IS-Retail Master Data (Article Master, Merchandise Categories, Sites, Vendor/Customer Master).
- Experience with listing, assortment management, and distribution chains within SAP Retail.
- Familiarity with Store Handheld devices and their integration with SAP inventory processes.
- Working knowledge of SAP Activate methodology and its application across full project lifecycles.
- Understanding of API design, middleware patterns, and real-time/batch data integration.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex, multi-system technical issues.
- Ability to translate business/functional requirements into scalable technical designs.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in agile/iterative development environments, including SAP Activate’s iterative delivery approach.
- Strong documentation skills for technical designs, configurations, and runbooks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in grocery or multi-department retail environments.
- SAP certification(s) related to S/4HANA Retail or Supply Chain modules.
- Familiarity with SAP Clean Core architecture principles.
- Experience with demand forecasting or automated replenishment systems beyond RELEX/F&R.
- Experience with performance tuning and monitoring of high-volume, real-time integration pipelines.
Pay
Salary Range: $146,960 - $220,440. Actual compensation offered may vary based on qualifications, experience, internal equity, and market conditions.
