About the role

The Staff Software Engineer, Sales Integrations designs, builds, and configures technical solutions connecting store-facing sales systems (POS and ECOM) with SAP to ensure seamless, real-time transaction and inventory data flow across the retail ecosystem. This role develops and maintains integrations between SAP CAR, Real-Time Inventory, and Omnichannel Article Availability (OAA)/Omnichannel Stock Availability (OSA) using SAP Integration Suite, translating business and store operations requirements into scalable, reliable technical solutions. The position ensures accurate inventory visibility, transaction integrity, and system performance across in-store and digital commerce channels.

This is a hybrid role requiring 3 in-person days at one of our core office locations (Salisbury, NC) and 2 remote days. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and configure integrations between POS/ECOM sales systems and SAP (including SAP CAR and S/4 IS-Retail) using SAP Integration Suite to ensure accurate and timely transaction data flow.
  • Develop and maintain Real-Time Inventory integrations across POS, ECOM, and SAP by configuring and monitoring data synchronization pipelines to ensure inventory accuracy and prevent overselling or stock discrepancies.
  • Implement and support Omnichannel Article Availability (OAA) and Omnichannel Stock Availability (OSA) solutions by configuring SAP CAR and related integration components to provide real-time product availability across channels.
  • Perform SAP configuration to support sales integrations (e.g., SAP CAR, S/4 IS-Retail settings) by analyzing functional requirements and translating them into system configuration.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues within sales integration pipelines (POS, ECOM, SAP CAR, Real-Time Inventory) by analyzing logs, tracing data flow, and identifying root causes to minimize transaction failures and inventory sync issues.
  • Partner with Business/Systems Analysts and Store Operations stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical designs through requirements sessions and feasibility input.
  • Design and execute unit, integration, and performance testing for sales integration solutions prior to deployment by developing test cases and validating data accuracy across systems.
  • Monitor integration performance and system health across POS/ECOM-to-SAP data flows using monitoring tools within Integration Suite to proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks or failures.
  • Document technical designs, configurations, and integration architecture for sales integration solutions to ensure maintainability and knowledge transfer.
  • Participate in system implementations, upgrades, and rollouts involving SAP CAR, Integration Suite, and POS/ECOM platforms by contributing technical design and configuration expertise.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of software engineering experience with progressively increasing technical responsibility.
  • Minimum 3 full-cycle SAP implementations involving SAP CAR, POS, and ECOM solutions, including experience applying SAP Activate methodology.
  • Experience designing and configuring integrations using SAP Integration Suite (Cloud Integration, API Management, or equivalent).
  • Strong working knowledge of SAP CAR, including data model and integration touchpoints with POS and ECOM.
  • Experience with Real-Time Inventory integration patterns and architecture.
  • Experience implementing Omnichannel Article Availability (OAA) and/or Omnichannel Stock Availability (OSA).
  • SAP configuration experience related to S/4 IS-Retail and/or SAP CAR.
  • Strong working knowledge of SAP S/4HANA IS-Retail Master Data, including Article Master, Merchandise Categories, Sites, and Vendor/Customer Master.
  • Experience with listing, assortment management, and distribution chains within SAP Retail.
  • Familiarity with retail pricing and promotions configuration, including purchase and sales price calculation schemas.
  • Working knowledge of SAP Activate methodology and its application across full project lifecycles.
  • Familiarity with POS and ECOM system architecture and transaction flows.
  • Understanding of API design, middleware patterns, and event-driven/real-time data integration.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex, multi-system technical issues.
  • Ability to translate business/functional requirements into scalable technical designs.
  • Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working in agile/iterative development environments, including SAP Activate’s iterative delivery approach.
  • Strong documentation skills for technical designs, configurations, and runbooks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in grocery or multi-department retail environments.
  • SAP certification(s) related to Integration Suite, CAR, or S/4HANA Retail.
  • Familiarity with SAP Clean Core architecture principles.
  • Experience with pharmacy or other regulated retail sales channels integrating into SAP.
