Staff+ Software Engineer, Platform Distribution

About the Role

The Claude Platform is growing rapidly and serves developers and enterprises at scale. Reaching the next tier of enterprise customers requires transforming how and where we deploy it, as well as the set of features we support out of the box. The Distribution team owns that transformation: making the Claude API a cloud-native, managed product that runs wherever our customers need it, cross-cloud and on Anthropic's own infrastructure, with the enterprise-grade security, compliance, and operational capabilities to support it.

Responsibilities

• Claude Platform on the Clouds: Make the Claude Platform a best-in-class offering on Cloud Service Providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) by bringing our API, control plane, and Anthropic features through the provider’s front door. Perform cross-cutting work across clouds and dive deep into native integrations for large-scale technical challenges. Collaborate with teams such as Infrastructure, Systems, Networking, Databases, and Inference.
• Enterprise Readiness: Enhance the platform for enterprise use by shipping next-generation enterprise enablement features. Focus on enterprise growth, security, and compliance, including key management, encryption, audit APIs, usage visibility, access control, and international data residency. Partner with core teams and CSPs to make these features available on cloud platforms.

Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of practical experience as a backend or platform engineer building scalable distributed systems, ideally at a tech lead level or equivalent.
• A product-focused approach to platform work, prioritizing robust, scalable, and easily adoptable solutions for customers.
• Experience owning large-scale infrastructure systems and leading ambiguous, cross-team technical projects from design through production.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, or Azure) at scale and/or Enterprise SaaS in a multi-tenant context, with a background in security, compliance, or data residency for regulated environments.
• Proficiency in Python, Go, Rust, or a similar systems language.
• Full ownership of work—from design through deployment and operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience in a field relevant to the role.

Pay

Annual Salary: $405,000—$485,000 USD

Schedule

• Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. Some roles may require more time in the office.
• Location Preference: Preference will be given to candidates based in NY or the Bay Area.
