Staff Software Engineer, Planner
Job Summary
Waymo is seeking a Software Engineer to join our team. This role focuses on developing the core technology that enables Waymo's fully autonomous driving capabilities.
About the Role
The Software Engineer will work with a creative team to ensure the Waymo Driver behaves safely, smoothly, and predictably on the road. They will frame open-ended real-world problems into well-defined engineering problems, develop tools, algorithms, and evaluation mechanisms, scale these solutions to large datasets, and refine them for real-time deployment on vehicles.
Responsibilities

- Collaborate with hardware and systems engineers
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of general software engineering experience programming in C++ with efficient code
- Experience collaborating with different teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters' degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a related technical field
- Experience solving motion planning or related robotics problems
- Experience building or evaluating ML-based systems
Pay
The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is $251,000—$310,000 USD. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
