About the role
We are Temporal, an open-source programming model dedicated to simplifying code, enhancing application reliability, and empowering developers. Our mission is to become the foundational tool for every developer's toolkit and we're seeking a Staff Software Engineer with a focus on Observability to join our Infrastructure Team.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Software Development Lifecycle, from soliciting goals and requirements to deployment and maintenance.
- Design and implement multi-component, distributed systems that operate at scale.
- Investigate issues methodically, considering performance and reliability implications at scale.
- Own technical excellence and ensure high-quality, well-documented software.
- Collaborate with the team to share design principles and mentor fellow team members.
- Participate in the team’s on-call rotation.
- Deeply understand the needs of Temporal’s internal developers and external customers, and leverage that knowledge for product development and feature design.
Requirements
This role requires a strong command over the Temporal ecosystem, demonstrated ability to develop horizontally scalable, resilient, and high-performance distributed systems, and expert-level skills in Kubernetes, SQL, and cloud provider operations.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, deploying, and supporting large-scale observability and/or high-throughput data streaming/processing pipelines.
- Expert-level proficiency in one or more high-level programming languages, preferably Go.
- Strong command over computer architecture, operating systems, and networking.
- Familiarity with monitoring, instrumenting, and configuring infrastructure best practices.
Skills & Technologies
- Expertise in developing horizontally scalable, resilient, and high-performance distributed systems in a production environment.
- Experience with Clickhouse, Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Thanos, Kubernetes, and Temporal.
- Hands-on experience with AWS or GCP.
- Thorough understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, and networking.
- Expert-level query development skills, preferably SQL.
- Expert-level Kubernetes skills.
- Expert-level proficiency in one or more high-level programming languages, preferably Go.
- Strong command over the Temporal ecosystem.
