About the Role

As a Staff Software Engineer in Test, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining complex software testing frameworks and tools, as well as mentoring junior team members to ensure delivery. This position is responsible for providing innovative solutions, implementing, and prioritizing software product roadmaps.

State-specific pay scales for this role are as follows:

  • $101,167 to $204,439 (CA, NJ, NY, WA, HI, AK, MD, CT, RI, MA)
  • $91,970 to $185,853 (NV, OR, AZ, CO, WY, TX, ND, MN, MO, IL, WI, FL, GA, MI, OH, VA, PA, DE, VT, NH, ME)
  • $82,773 to $167,268 (UT, ID, MT, NM, SD, NE, KS, OK, IA, AR, LA, MS, AL, TN, KY, IN, SC, NC, WV)

The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on relevant experience, skills, and location.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain test automation frameworks, tools, and libraries.
  • Develop a strong understanding of relevant product areas, designing and implementing complex framework features.
  • Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to debug and resolve issues, especially with automation scripts, frameworks, and tools.
  • Implement and enhance Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to facilitate automated testing during build and deployment processes.
  • Design and implement complex performance test scripts based on existing automation frameworks and tools to execute performance tests and provide analytical feedback.
  • Participate in discussions to define test automation strategies, research and evaluate new technologies, and determine appropriate test coverage.
  • Analyze requirements and system design to determine the approach for automation implementation.
  • Define and enforce automation standards and best practices, including coding standards and guidelines for writing and maintaining automated test scripts.
  • Review code written by team members to ensure adherence to standards and provide constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to gather requirements and provide solutions in the framework to meet testing needs.
  • Create, monitor, and analyze test execution results, providing in-depth insights and recommendations based on findings.
  • Train and mentor engineers on using the automation framework, diagnosing and resolving issues, and preparing proper documentation.

Requirements

Education:

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or other related fields, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum: 8+ years of industry experience, leading testing software engineering teams for small/medium projects.
  • Preferred: 5 or more years of development experience with Java and/or Python.
  • 5 or more years of experience with broad testing such as API, UI, performance, etc.
  • 3 or more years of experience creating automation frameworks.
  • 3 or more years of experience developing testing tools.
  • 1 or more years of experience integrating AI into testing.

Skills

  • Product Knowledge: Acquire and apply domain-specific knowledge to align testing efforts with business objectives and real-world use cases.
  • Training, Leading, and Mentorship: Capability to train, lead, and mentor junior team members in automation best practices and framework usage.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for executing task-specific collaboration and conveying technical details.
  • Release Process and CI/CD: Knowledge of Agile software development release process, CI/CD practices, and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub).
  • Technologies: Experience with containerization technologies, cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure), and leveraging DevSecOps to improve engineering efficiency.
  • Framework Design and Development: Proficiency in designing and implementing high-quality, modular, configurable frameworks that maximize reuse and are secure, compliant, stable, and maintainable.
  • Performance Testing: Familiarity with performance testing concepts and tools (e.g., JMeter, LoadRunner).
  • Documentation Skills: Proficiency in documenting framework architecture, components, usage instructions, presentations, and bug reports.
  • Requirements Analysis: Ability to analyze system requirements and design to determine the best approach for testing changes or implementations.
  • Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Debugging and resolving blocking issues in automation scripts, frameworks, and tools using analytical and creative approaches.
  • Multi-Tasking: Ability to manage multiple tasks with a positive attitude to complete them on time.
  • Test Automation Tools: Experience with popular test automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Selenium, TestNG, JUnit, Appium, IDE, Metrics).
  • Debugging and Troubleshooting: Strong skills in diagnosing issues within automation execution and scripts.
  • Best Coding Practices: Ability to conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure quality and adherence to standards.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing requirements, code designs, new technologies, and shifting priorities.
  • API Testing: Knowledge of API testing methodologies and tools (e.g., Postman, SoapUI, Curl, Insomnia).
  • Coding Skills: Strong knowledge of programming languages commonly used in automation, such as Java, Python, or JavaScript.
  • Continuous Learning: Commitment to staying updated with the latest trends, tools, and technologies in test automation and quality assurance.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure high-quality automated tests and reliable framework performance.
  • Time Management: Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple testing projects and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.

Pay

Pay Range: USD $101,167.00 - USD $204,439.00 per year, varying by location and experience.
