About the Role

Join the HingeSelect team, a high-growth internal startup within Hinge Health that is transforming how our members access care. You will be the technical anchor for our mission to seamlessly connect members with virtual orthopedic specialists and a high-performance network of in-person providers. This is a rare opportunity to operate in a fast-paced 0-to-1 environment while leveraging the resources of a market leader to solve complex challenges in musculoskeletal (MSK) care delivery.

What You'll Accomplish

In your first 3 months: You will dive deep into our existing stack (Golang, TypeScript, React Native) to ship critical features for our Specialist Visits product. You will establish initial engineering standards for this new initiative and build trust with cross-functional partners in Product and Design.

In your first 6 months: You will lead complex, cross-team initiatives that unlock new product capabilities, guiding the team through ambiguity to deliver durable solutions. You will mentor senior engineers, raising the technical bar and ensuring our clinical journeys are intuitive and high-quality.

In your first year: You will drive the architectural vision for our 2026 scale-up plans, designing services capable of handling 100x growth. You will shape the long-term technical strategy, balancing immediate delivery with the reliability and maintainability required for a massive scaling effort.

Who You Are

  • A Strategic Architect: You excel at defining technical approaches for ambiguous problem spaces. You don't just write code; you design scalable systems and APIs (REST or gRPC) that support exponential growth and future product needs.
  • A Force Multiplier: You measure your success by the success of your team. Through mentorship, design guidance, and thoughtful feedback, you enable other engineers to operate more effectively and independently.
  • A "Learn-it-all": You leverage AI thoughtfully to accelerate workflows and improve team effectiveness. You are passionate about our mission and constantly seek new ways to use technology to help people overcome chronic pain.

Basic Qualifications

  • At minimum, 4+ years of software engineering experience
  • At minimum, a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Expert proficiency across the full stack (web, mobile, and backend), with deep experience in React.js, React Native, Golang (or similar backend technologies), and TypeScript to drive product decisions
  • Proven track record of architecting and designing scalable APIs (REST or gRPC) and data models that support exponential growth
  • Experience leading technical execution in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, working closely with cross-functional partners
  • Passionate about our mission to help people overcome chronic pain and improve quality of life
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code) and a passion for leveraging AI technologies to accelerate engineering velocity and design high-quality systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years of non-internship experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of building scalable backend systems and microservices
  • Experience designing and evolving systems in a rapid-growth, 0-to-1 environment where you navigated ambiguity and iterated quickly
  • Deep familiarity with our core stack: React Native, React, Node.js, TypeScript, NestJS, GraphQL, Docker, Golang, AWS, Postgres, Temporal, and gRPC
  • Experience designing and evolving integration-heavy systems (e.g., with hospital systems, health plans, or other external partners)
  • Experience in healthcare, insurance tech, or high-compliance industries (HIPAA, SOC 2)
