Accountabilities
- Owning and evolving the platform architecture by assessing existing systems, identifying improvements, and driving technical decisions across data layers, APIs, frontend applications, and deployment infrastructure.
- Building and maintaining production-quality applications across the full stack using technologies such as React, TypeScript, Node.js/NestJS, PostgreSQL, and AWS.
- Designing scalable multi-tenant systems with strong approaches to tenant isolation, data partitioning, role-based access control, and configurable workflows.
- Embedding security principles throughout the development process, including authentication, authorization, encryption, validation, API protection, and compliance readiness.
- Improving system performance through profiling, benchmarking, optimization of database queries, caching strategies, frontend performance, monitoring, and alerting.
- Architecting solutions that support future growth through scalable infrastructure, asynchronous processing, load management, and efficient resource utilization.
- Establishing engineering standards, best practices, development patterns, and quality expectations that support future team growth.
- Mentoring engineers through design reviews, technical collaboration, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
- Evaluating and adopting modern engineering tools, including AI-assisted development solutions, to improve productivity and development workflows.
- Staying current with emerging trends in software engineering, infrastructure, AI development tools, and technical practices.
- Supporting broader team initiatives when needed, including DevOps improvements, debugging, customer issues, hiring activities, and other engineering priorities.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience building scalable full-stack web applications.
- Proven experience working in high-ambiguity environments where priorities shift quickly and engineers take ownership of outcomes.
- Deep knowledge of modern web technologies, with expertise across areas such as React, TypeScript, Node.js/NestJS, PostgreSQL, and AWS.
- Demonstrated ability to define system architecture, make foundational technical decisions, and improve existing platforms.
- Strong understanding of application security principles, including OWASP Top 10, authentication, authorization, threat modeling, and secure system design.
- Experience identifying and resolving performance challenges across databases, APIs, frontend applications, and infrastructure.
- Strong product delivery mindset with the ability to balance technical excellence and pragmatic execution.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Copilot, or similar solutions, with the ability to evaluate their practical benefits and limitations.
- Strong ownership mentality with the ability to proactively identify problems, propose solutions, and drive initiatives independently.
- Experience in healthcare, biotech, life sciences, or clinical/research data platforms is preferred.
- Experience working in early-stage or growth-stage companies with limited resources and fast iteration cycles is a plus.
- Familiarity with developer-facing APIs, platform engineering, event-driven architectures, CQRS, domain-driven design, infrastructure-as-code, or CI/CD practices is preferred.
- Experience with security audits, penetration testing, SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar compliance processes is beneficial.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to mentor engineers while collaborating effectively across teams.
