Staff Software Engineer (Frontend), Infra
About Us
Harmonic is the startup discovery engine. We aim to address the issue of great startup opportunities going unfunded due to lack of signal rather than talent. By mapping the entire startup landscape, we build tools to bring the right companies to the right people at the right time. Investors, corporate development, and GTM teams at Anthropic, OpenAI, General Catalyst, Kleiner Perkins, Brex, and Notion rely on us to find breakout companies before they become obvious and convert that discovery into action. Whether it's a check, an acquisition, partnership, or won business, we're committed to ensuring hundreds of billions of dollars find the right founders, fostering innovations that matter most.
About Infrastructure
Infrastructure powers Harmonic's ability to process millions of startup signals in real-time. While Flow builds workflows and Discovery surfaces insights, Infrastructure ensures these processes are fast, reliable, and scalable. We're at an inflection point where our frontend needs to serve hundreds of users running complex queries across millions of companies, building sophisticated searches, and collaborating on deal flow. As we scale, we need to transform our frontend from "it works" to "it works flawlessly."
Infrastructure Priorities
Reliability: Users depend on us for critical investment decisions. We need robust error handling, graceful degradation, and resilient core flows.
Performance: Large datasets currently strain our frontend. Views with thousands of rows need to render smoothly. Complex filters need to respond quickly. Data visualizations need to load without blocking the UI.
Enabling developers: Once we've nailed reliability and performance, better abstractions and clearer patterns let engineers ship with confidence.
The Role
In this role, you will fix core reliability issues such as error boundaries, state management, and data consistency. Optimize performance by implementing virtualization for large datasets, bundle optimization, and render performance. Establish monitoring and observability to catch issues before users do. Create testing strategies that prevent regressions. Drive technical decisions and mentor the team through complex migrations.
