Staff+ Software Engineer, Design Automation
About Us
Reframe Systems is a Physical AI and robotics company dedicated to making high-performance housing accessible and abundant in communities worldwide. We deliver climate-resilient homes and buildings through our vertically integrated delivery model and highly automated microfactories, producing them faster and more predictably than traditional construction methods. Our volumetric modular buildings are manufactured in our Andover, MA microfactory, with expanding operations across North America and a new microfactory on the horizon. Our team combines expertise from architecture, robotics, design engineering, software, factory operations, and field delivery to innovate the future of housing.
What We're Looking For
We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of our design automation platform. This role requires a deep understanding of architectural and construction principles, as well as strong software engineering skills. The ideal candidate will help architect and build the core of our design automation platform, transforming complex designs into manufacturable models and production plans. This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership position.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and build the core of our design automation platform, including the pipeline that translates high-level building designs into manufacturing-ready outputs.
- Decompose large problems into manageable components and ensure the pipeline's stages, intermediate representations, and verification gates are robust and effective.
- Design and implement the pipeline's stages, intermediate representation, and verification gates to catch issues early in the process.
- Set technical direction for design automation and drive the engineering team to higher standards through review, standards, and mentorship.
- Leverage AI to both build and utilize the design automation system, enhancing its capabilities and efficiency.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop a highly automated system, progressively integrating new technologies and workflows.
Qualifications
- Prior knowledge or experience in architecture or construction is not required. We will provide training.
- Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of experience building production software, including automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and alerting.
- Strong software engineering experience, preferably in Go, Python, or C#.
- Experience with cloud-native architecture, particularly data-centric applications.
- Experience managing infrastructure and deployments in containerized/cloud services (e.g., EC2, Lambda).
- Demonstrated technical leadership, including the ability to turn a messy domain into clean abstractions and deliver reliable code at scale.
- Experience using coding agents to build prototypes and become productive quickly in new languages.
- Depth in one or more of these domains: Geometric engines and CAD, computational geometry, procedural and generative design, or experience with EDA, game/physics engines, or compilers and program transformation.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Onshape and FeatureScript.
- Production applied AI work, such as tool-use orchestration and structured generation.
- Experience with architecture, construction, or mechanical design software.
- Utilization of GPU-accelerated compute.
