Staff Software Engineer, Data Governance & Foundations

For our client, a leader in the Consumer Technology space, we are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join their Data Governance & Foundations team. This role focuses on the intersection of data, AI-enabled capabilities, and scalable technology delivery, partnering with business, technical, and operational stakeholders to build reporting, surface trends, and drive actionable insights.

Location: Remote – US-based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available.

Responsibilities

• Translate data strategy into a scalable architecture roadmap aligned with leadership priorities.
• Own the open lakehouse foundation, establishing governance and compute portfolio for multi-engine support.
• Drive real-time infrastructure for critical business use cases, defining SLAs and operational practices.
• Implement AI-native engineering practices to enhance platform development and observability.
• Lead architectural reviews, mentor team members, and ensure clear communication of technical decisions between teams.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with data infrastructure or distributed systems at scale.
• Expertise with modern data lakehouse architectures and open table formats like Apache Iceberg and Delta Lake.
• Familiarity with event-driven and streaming infrastructure for real-time pipelines, such as Kafka and Flink.
• Proven experience managing significant platform transitions or migrations to production.
• Ability to develop cost/benefit and TCO models for infrastructure projects, along with effective communication skills.

Pay

$221,000 – $279,500 annually.
