About the Opportunity
The Senior Data Platform Engineer role is a senior individual contributor position responsible for owning and developing the foundational data platform supporting the entire Data and Data Science organization. This role involves designing, building, and maintaining scalable, reliable, and governed data architectures and workflows, especially focused on IoT data modeling. The position enables the organization to deliver accurate and accessible data solutions that empower analytics, AI, and machine learning initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Own the full data platform including ingestion, modeling, self-service, CI/CD, and visualization with process and documentation to enforce standards.
- Design and build scalable and performant data architecture and data flows to support data democratization and AI/ML efforts.
- Collaborate with software teams to select and implement technology stacks for streaming data integration.
- Develop data models, transformations, and orchestration for IoT data, working with cross-functional teams to translate complex needs into production-ready solutions.
- Establish governed self-service data models with permissioning, peer review, production standards, and data lineage.
- Enhance AI integration with data, including governance and accuracy safeguards.
- Develop scalable monitoring and alerting systems with comprehensive coverage and minimal noise.
- Define and enforce privacy, governance, and security best practices, including handling sensitive data and audit readiness.
- Support advanced analytics, experimentation, and AI/ML modeling through collaboration with Data Science teams.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship across the Data and Data Science organization.
- Stay updated on emerging data technologies and recommend platform improvements.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering or platform engineering with ownership of full production data platforms.
- Expertise with modern cloud data stack tools such as Fivetran, Snowflake, dbt, and BI tools like Looker.
- Knowledge of AI data consumption patterns and governance for LLMs and AI agents.
- Hands-on experience architecting streaming and batch data pipelines at scale (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis, Spark).
- Proven ability to design governance models enabling safe self-service by non-engineers.
- Experience building observability layers including monitoring, alerting, lineage, and data quality tracking.
- Proficiency in SQL and Python with a track record of independently delivering production solutions.
- Experience mentoring engineers and fostering innovation in data teams.
Pay Range and Compensation Package
