Staff Software Engineer, Backend

Primary Responsibilities

  • Hands-On Development – Design, build, and maintain backend systems, APIs, and services.
  • Write high-quality, efficient, and maintainable code.
  • Serve as the go-to technical leader for the team, guiding design decisions and setting engineering standards.
  • Mentor and support junior developers, providing guidance, feedback, and technical coaching.
  • Contribute to and help shape scalable, secure, and maintainable system architecture.
  • Lead code reviews and promote best practices across the codebase.
  • Analyze complex technical challenges and implement effective solutions.
  • Partner closely with product, design, and other engineers to deliver features and improvements.
  • Ensure systems meet high standards for security, performance, and reliability.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated extensive experience in designing, developing, and maintaining complex software solutions.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and best practices.
  • Expertise with Spring and Hibernate.
  • Experience implementing SSO solutions such as SAML and OpenID.
  • Experience with MySQL or other RDBMS.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and helps to define the product design.
  • Comfortable working in an agile development process.
  • Must like dogs (they are in the office, everyday).

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in computer science, or equivalent field.
  • 8–12+ years of software engineering experience, with strong backend development expertise.

Pay

The Base Salary range for this position is between $180,000-$220,000. This information reflects a base salary range that AssetMark reasonably expects to pay for the position based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and actual work location. This position will also be eligible for additional variable incentive compensation and competitive benefits.
