Staff Software Engineer

What you get to do

• Product Experience Ownership: Define and deliver polished, intuitive user experiences across the core product surface area, including admin workflows, employee-facing journeys, and broker/operations tools.
• Frontend Architecture: Lead the architecture of scalable frontend systems: component libraries, design systems, state management, routing, data fetching, form architecture, and performance patterns for large, complex applications.
• Complex Workflow Design: Build interfaces for high-stakes, compliance-heavy workflows such as enrollment, eligibility, plan management, QLEs, terminations, audits, and approvals—making complex processes understandable and actionable.
• AI-Powered Experiences: Partner with Product, Design, and backend engineering to bring AI-assisted workflows into the UI in a way that is useful, safe, explainable, and trustworthy. Design interfaces for human-in-the-loop review, guidance, and exception handling.
• Data-Rich Interfaces: Create responsive, accessible, and reliable experiences for surfacing structured data, rules, audit history, workflow status, and partner data. Build views that help users quickly understand what changed, what matters, and what to do next.
• Design System and UI Consistency: Own and evolve shared frontend primitives, interaction patterns, and visual standards that keep the product cohesive as the surface area expands.
• Performance, Accessibility, and Quality: Ensure the application is fast, accessible, resilient, and easy to use across modern browsers. Set the standard for testing, observability, and frontend quality.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product and Design from discovery through delivery. Translate ambiguous workflows into clear UX, give implementation feedback early, and help shape product decisions with engineering perspective.
• Technical Leadership: Set frontend engineering patterns, mentor other engineers, participate in design reviews and RFCs, and help raise the overall bar for product quality and technical execution.

What you bring

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years at Senior or Staff level owning cross-team initiatives
• Strong production experience building modern frontend applications with React and TypeScript
• Deep experience with frontend architecture, including component systems, state management, forms, data fetching, and performance optimization
• Strong eye for product quality, interaction design, accessibility, and polish
• Experience working closely with Product and Design to turn complex requirements into intuitive user experiences
• Comfort building interfaces for workflow-heavy, data-rich, or compliance-sensitive products
• Ability to drive technical decisions through RFCs, design reviews, and collaborative planning
• Experience partnering with backend engineers and APIs to deliver end-to-end product experiences
• Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent experience will be considered

Nice to have

• Experience building products in benefits, HR tech, PEO, EOR, payroll, or insurance
• Experience designing workflow-heavy B2B SaaS products for admins, operators, or external partners
• Familiarity with AI-assisted product experiences, human-in-the-loop review, or agent-based interfaces
• Production experience with design systems, component libraries, or internal frontend platforms
• Accessibility expertise, especially in complex enterprise products
• Experience with testing strategies for frontend apps, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing
• Familiarity with observability tools for frontend monitoring and performance
