Our mission is to create a brand that respects the past and future, communities, work, and play. We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer (Android) to join our Digital Products team.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, maintenance and mobile release of our Android applications.
- Drive the technical architecture and implementation of mobile platform and solutions from the ground up, ensuring they are scalable, reliable, and performant.
- Grow the knowledge of the team, sharing through pair programming, code reviews, presentations, example code, and documentation.
- Implement programming best practices, deployment processes and monitoring for mobile platforms.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in mobile development, advocating for the adoption of new tools and techniques as appropriate.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering shipping customer facing applications on Android.
- Proficiency in Android application development using languages like Kotlin or Java.
- Solid understanding of mobile platform architecture, UI/UX design principles and frameworks, GraphQL, mobile security and performance optimization techniques.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git), CI/CD pipelines and mobile release process.
- Experience as a technical lead for large projects (6+ months in length), including defining the roadmap for complex projects spanning multiple teams and functions.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience operating in start-up settings, launching 0 to 1 product, and driving graduation to highly customized applications.
- Able to effectively manage multiple priorities and stakeholders in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Passion for mobile technology and a commitment to delivering exceptional user experiences.
Qualifications
- Experience building systems in the automotive industry.
- Experience with mobile app testing, experimentation frameworks and automation frameworks.
- Experience with cloud technologies and services, such as AWS or Azure.
Skills
- Experience with mobile app development on Android.
- Strong understanding of mobile platform architecture and UI/UX design principles.
- Knowledge of GraphQL and mobile security techniques.
- Experience with version control systems and CI/CD pipelines.
- Ability to lead large-scale projects and mentor junior engineers.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Passion for mobile technology and user experience.

Pay
The initial base salary range for this position is $165,000.00 - $200,000.00. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent. The initial California base salary range is $181,500 - $220,000.
Schedule
This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Fremont, California. This role requires occasional attendance in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events.
