Staff Software Development Engineer

This role focuses on managing technical needs within the Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM) space, including development, operations, and support for web-based tool development platforms. You’ll collaborate with technical leaders, business stakeholders, and engineering teams to align investments with enterprise strategic goals. While we prefer candidates local to Buffalo Grove, IL or Richardson, TX for hybrid onsite work, remote candidates will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and guidance to the engineering team, driving excellence and establishing web best practices.
• Research and evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and frameworks to identify opportunities for innovation in digital health.
• Design and implement complex features, optimize performance, and ensure code quality in software development.
• Solve complex technical problems during the development process.
• Deliver technical insights and recommendations to align solutions with business goals.
• Recommend technology selections and integrations based on performance, scalability, security, accessibility, and maintainability.
• Troubleshoot issues, guide the development team, and resolve technical challenges.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product managers, UX/UI designers, developers) to define technical requirements and scalable architectures.
• Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and professional growth.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in large-scale software development, with 2+ years in a technical lead role.
• 7+ years of experience developing applications/web services and cloud-native apps using Java, React, Angular, Spring Boot, REST API, JPA, and messaging technologies.
• 5+ years of experience with agile development.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years designing and developing highly scalable Microservices, Webservices, and REST APIs.
• 5+ years of experience in Test-Driven Development (TDD).
• 3+ years of experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins or CircleCI.
• 3+ years of experience with source management tools like GitHub or GitLab.
• 3+ years of experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• 3+ years of experience with cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS).
• Experience with accessibility (A11y), web performance, and stability best practices.

Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (high school diploma + 4 years of relevant experience).

Pay

The typical pay range for this role is $118,450.00 - $236,900.00 annually. The actual base salary will depend on factors such as experience, education, and geography. This position is also eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission, or short-term incentive program, as well as equity awards.
