About the role
Maravai LifeSciences is seeking a Staff Scientist/Senior Manager, Biology to lead R&D programs and scientific staff while supporting product launches, customer engagements, technology transfer, intellectual property development, and cross-functional business initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage biology research and development programs from concept through commercialization, ensuring alignment with company objectives and market needs.
- Develop and execute scientific strategies, technology roadmaps, and innovation initiatives to support new products, services, and platform technologies.
- Lead, mentor, and develop scientific staff while fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, and scientific excellence.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities, including resource planning, risk assessment, timelines, budgets, and achievement of key milestones.
- Serve as a senior technical resource for customer interactions, scientific collaborations, product applications, and resolution of complex technical and product-related issues.
- Design, oversee, and review experimental plans, data analysis, technical reports, and scientific presentations; drive troubleshooting, root-cause investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead technology transfer activities and support process development, scale-up, validation, and implementation of new products and processes.
- Support intellectual property development through innovation initiatives, invention disclosures, patent filings, and competitive technology assessments.
- Monitor scientific, technical, regulatory, and industry trends to identify strategic opportunities and maintain the company's competitive position.
- Represent the company at customer meetings, scientific conferences, industry events, and external collaborations.
Requirements
- Ph.D. with 8+ years, M.S. with 12+ years, or B.S. with 15+ years of industry experience in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical Biology, or a related scientific discipline preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing scientific teams, complex R&D programs, and cross-functional initiatives within biotechnology, life sciences, or related industries preferred.
- Strong scientific background in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, nucleic acid technologies, assay development, and biological product development.
- Experience with product development, technology transfer, process development, commercialization, manufacturing support, and innovation management.
- Experience supporting intellectual property development, patent filings, and scientific documentation preferred.
- Proven ability to develop strategy, manage multiple priorities, solve complex technical problems, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent leadership, project management, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with customers, external partners, and executive leadership.
Qualifications
- Ph.D., M.S., or B.S. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical Biology, or a related scientific discipline.
- At least 8+ years of industry experience in a relevant field, with demonstrated leadership and management experience.

Pay
The anticipated salary range for this position is $130,000 - $150,000. In addition, highly competitive long-term incentives in the form of company equity, bonus participation, and company-sponsored benefits are provided as part of the total compensation package.
