Staff Scientist, Research and Development

About the role

As a Staff Scientist in the Ion Chromatography and Sample Preparation Research and Development department, you will play a crucial role in developing innovative ion chromatography columns and sample preparation products. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful work in areas such as cancer research, environmental protection, and food safety.

Responsibilities

• Conduct exploratory R&D activities for chromatography columns and sample preparation consumables.
• Generate, investigate, and explore new ideas and concepts by defining experiments, building, debugging, and characterizing prototypes.
• Lead new product development efforts, including prototype design and development, functional testing, characterization, and manufacturability assessments.
• Provide technical guidance and expertise to product development teams, strategically guiding R&D activities to develop highly differentiated ion chromatography separation media, columns, and sample preparation products.
• Serve as a technical resource to management and cross-functional teams in ion-exchange chromatography consumables, resin synthesis, modification, and characterization.
• Collaborate with product management and operations representatives to provide technical support for ion chromatography columns and sample preparation consumables.
• Deliver new product design and application messaging internally, at conferences, and during customer interactions through presentations.
• Contribute to the scientific community by writing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, invention disclosures, and possible patent applications.

Requirements

• Master’s degree and 4+ years of relevant industry experience, or a PhD degree and 2+ years.
• PhD or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or an equivalent science discipline.
• Proficiency in polymer synthesis and hands-on experience using characterization tools such as particle size analysis, surface area measurements, and related techniques.
• Knowledge of liquid chromatography principles and separation materials.
• Well-versed in analytical chemistry principles and techniques.
• High level of technology fluency to understand and communicate product-related technology.
• Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, writing, communication, and presentation skills.
• Strong organizational and planning abilities, with the capacity to make independent decisions.
• Ability to accurately plan, define, and manage project tasks.
• Strong ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Must pass a comprehensive background check, including a drug screen.

Work Environment

• Standard work schedule: Monday–Friday.
• Laboratory setting with some degree of PPE required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs, etc.).

Location: Sunnyvale, CA. Relocation assistance is not provided.

Pay

The estimated salary range for this position in California is $123,800–$148,000. This position may also be eligible for a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and individual performance.
