Staff Scientist - Infectious Diseases
About the role
The Boon-lab at WashU in St Louis is seeking a Staff Scientist to support our team studying tick-borne viral diseases, including Bourbon and Heartland virus. Projects include developing and evaluating antiviral and anti-tick vaccines, characterizing human and mouse monoclonal antibodies, and developing serological assays to determine infection prevalence.
Responsibilities
- Designs research protocols following instructions and discussions with the principal investigator.
- Assists with grant preparation and reporting.
- Performs complex statistical analysis of data collected and writes interpretative reports.
- Verifies the correctness of data submitted and makes recommendations based on analyses.
- Documents research topics and prepares and submits papers based on research work to publications and committees for publication or presentation to peers.
- Solves practical problems relating to difficulties with equipment or test subjects. Suggests technical or procedural improvements in testing methods.
- Conducts literature searches related to research projects.
- Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
- Maintains physical ability to wear protective equipment and provide standard care to research animals.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in virology or tick-research is highly desired.
- Published one or more papers in peer-reviewed journals.
- Can guide research projects.
- Good interpersonal skills and willingness to mentor students and technicians.
- Excellent speaking, reading, and writing skills.

Salary
$48,000.00 - $86,900.00 / Annually
