About the role

GHD is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Environmental Staff Scientist to join our dynamic team in Irvine, Long Beach, Sacramento, Roseville, Concord, or Santa Rosa, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Support environmental assessments, regulatory compliance, site investigations, and sustainable project development across a diverse range of industries.
  • Contribute to impactful projects involving environmental investigation, remediation, and risk assessment, while working closely with clients, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Collate and analyze data using preset tools, methods, and formats.
  • Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching.
  • Maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
  • Follow the organization's health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the well-being of self and others in the workplace.
  • Identify patterns of risky behavior within the team and take appropriate action to resolve them, escalating serious issues as appropriate.
  • Manage relationships with small clients while also helping senior colleagues manage relationships with larger key clients and customers.
  • Collect a range of samples for laboratory testing and undertake testing in accordance with statutory frameworks and best practice to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Carry out environmental impact assessments, delivering on assigned tasks to ensure comprehensive evaluation.
  • Interpret data and identify possible answers. Involves navigating a wide variety of processes, procedures, and precedents.
  • Contribute to the preparation of various data and analytics reports.
  • Gather information and resources, and draft and complete standard requests for bid solicitation requests for proposal (RFP) and requests for tender (RFT) on the requester side.
  • Participate actively in a community of practice in a defined area of expertise or consulting to build own expertise.
  • Coordinate the process of identifying, assessing, and mitigating environmental risks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Geology, Natural Resources, Environmental Science or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years professional experience post graduation including field sampling work.
  • Ability to travel overnight.

$67,500-$116,000 based on experience and location
