Staff Scientist
The Nelson research group at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is seeking a highly motivated Staff Scientist to lead multiple projects focused on androgen receptor (AR) biochemistry and pathobiology in prostate cancer.

Responsibilities
- Design and conduct experiments to determine mechanisms of AR activity in prostate cancer.
- Design and conduct experiments identifying pathways and drugs that exploit AR signaling pathways in cancer and benign cells.
- Design and conduct genetic and small molecule screens for vulnerabilities in models of advanced prostate cancer.
- Perform bioinformatics and statistical analyses of public and private datasets of gene expression and genomics in advanced prostate cancer.
- Develop independent research projects suitable for external funding proposals.
- Document experimental research in formats appropriate for presentations, publications, and grant proposals.
- Assist the Principal Investigator with projects, including supervising, training, and mentoring laboratory members.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree or equivalent in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology, immunology, or genetics.
- Post-doctoral or research experience in a field relating to oncology: endocrinology, genomics, genetics, metastasis, drug and gene delivery systems, immunology, or immunotherapy.
- Evidence of independent research, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and successful grant funding.
- Experience in supervisory and project management in an academic or biotechnology setting.
- Capacity to develop new research techniques and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience performing standard cell, histology, and molecular biology techniques, including RNAseq and ChIPseq.
- Experience working with in vivo systems, including genetically modified and syngeneic mouse tumor models.
- Experience with rapid screening of new technologies intended to enhance drug and biologics delivery.
- Experience in the development and characterization of genetically engineered mouse models.
- Ability to work in a cross-functional environment with engineers, biologists, and medical doctors.
- Development of protocols (e.g., IACUC and IRB), work plans for externally funded research agreements, and experience writing and submitting research grants to funding agencies.
Pay
The annual base salary range for this position is from $84,406 to $191,755, with pay offered based on experience and qualifications.
