About the role
CSS is seeking a Staff Scientist to review and evaluate data on pesticides and other chemicals of environmental concern, ensuring compliance with Federal regulations.
Responsibilities
- Review and evaluate published and unpublished data on pesticides and other chemicals for compliance with Federal regulations, including data requirements under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA).
- Review data on pesticide residue levels in water, food, feed, and livestock from registered or proposed uses, and evaluate the adequacy of proposed or established pesticide tolerances.
- Prepare reports summarizing results from EPA Test Guideline studies on conventional, biochemical, and microbial pesticides, assessing study adequacy and the impact of findings on registrations or proposed uses.
- Perform quality assurance reviews of reports prepared by other scientists, providing oversight on scientific and regulatory issues.
- Utilize residue data in the development of pesticide risk assessments.
Requirements
- B.S. or M.S. in biology, agronomy, horticulture, plant pathology, chemistry, microbiology, entomology, or a related life science, with 1-5 years of relevant experience.
- Understanding of registration requirements for pesticides in the U.S. under FIFRA and the Pesticide Registration Improvement Act (PRIA).
- Thorough understanding of experimental design and analysis, including statistical evaluation of experimental data.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience in preparing and editing technical reports in clear Standard English.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access).
