Staff Scientist

Responsibilities

• Operate, troubleshoot, and design complex scientific apparatus
• Collaborate with engineers and other scientists to develop next-generation instrumentation
• Write detailed reports and present findings to stakeholders
• Stay up-to-date with latest developments and advancements in instrumentation
• Handle multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment
• Identify possible improvements in the instruments used, discuss them with others, and work with a team to implement them
• Naturally strive for efficiency and complete projects fully and with no leftover loose ends
• Enjoy traveling, meeting new people, training others, and learning from the experience
• Able to quickly pick up new proficiencies on as-needed basis, such as a new simulation package
• Conduct original research and experiments
• Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure safety protocols

Qualifications

• Recent Ph.D. in physics or related discipline
• Solid communication skills
• Willingness to travel (electron microscope operating experience is a plus)
