STAFF RN PRN

About the role

This Staff RN PRN performs diverse duties in a personal care home setting, working as a professional practitioner at Skyland Trail in Residential Services. The role involves responsibility and accountability for applying the nursing process and delivering client care, carrying out clinical recommendations consistent with Skyland Trail’s policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes the nursing process to assess, implement, and evaluate client care.
• Implements client treatment plans and discharge planning for residential clients.
• Serves as the liaison with community psychiatrists and doctors; available to take medication orders from attending psychiatrists.
• Administers medications and monitors self-administration of medications at residential sites and the Health and Education Center.
• Performs medical and health screenings, collects specimens, records vital signs, and weighs clients; may administer injections as needed.
• Assesses signs and symptoms indicating physiological and/or psychosocial changes in clients’ conditions.
• Follows up on emergency, clinic, and hospital visits.
• Documents client responses to nursing and other interventions.
• Records and reports observed symptoms, reactions, treatments, and changes in clients’ conditions.
• Orients clients and families to the facility and ensures client safety.
• Monitors activities of visitors and performs room searches as necessary.
• Instructs clients in activities of daily living, interpersonal, and socialization skills.
• Assists in crisis situations in coordination with the crisis communication plan; intervenes to decrease client panic.
• Co-facilitates an educational group per week for clients.
• Participates in change-of-shift reports and ensures medication management policies are followed.
• Facilitates or co-facilitates community meetings.
• Serves as the alternate residential representative to the Safety and/or QI Committee if needed.
• Participates in Infection Control and Medication Management Policy and Procedure reviews.
• Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the employee’s qualifications.
• Maintains and stocks inventory of office and/or clinical supplies as appropriate.

  • Standards of Patient Care
  • JCAHO, ORS, state, and local laws
  • Skyland Trail Policy and Procedure

Requirements

• Current RN License for Georgia without restrictions.
• Minimum of two years of experience as an RN.
• Current physical and PPD.
• Two years of psychiatric nursing experience preferred.
• Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
