Staff RN Oncology, Fulltime DAYS

Stamford Health is hiring a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) for the Inpatient Oncology Unit on the day shift. This position involves (3) 13-hour shifts from 7am to 8pm, with rotating weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver patient care using the Nursing Process while adhering to State and Federal guidelines.
• Supervise non-RN personnel and act as a resource for ancillary staff on the unit.
• Oversee unit activities when assigned to charge or clinical coordinator roles.
• Serve as a preceptor for new staff and/or students.
• Adhere to all Stamford Hospital policies, including the Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program.
• Provide safe and therapeutic care using the hospital’s cultural values.
• Assess patients’ physical and psychosocial conditions throughout their care continuum.
• Develop and communicate patient care plans reflecting issues and interventions to achieve desired outcomes.
• Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare teams to implement care plans.
• Coordinate and lead groups, document group notes, and complete Activity Therapy Assessments in the absence of the Activities Therapist.
• Provide education to patients and families based on assessed learning needs.
• Communicate effectively with all healthcare team members and related departments.
• Maintain effective working relationships with peers, managers, and other team members.
• Uphold patient rights to confidentiality, privacy, and ethical disclosure of information.
• Practice the 5 rights of patient safety in medication and treatment administration.
• Respond to crises calmly and efficiently, directing others as needed.
• Evaluate patient outcomes, adjust care plans, and refer for additional services when necessary.
• Document all aspects of patient care clearly, concisely, and in a timely manner, including Nursing Treatment Plans.
• Maintain professional communication, including checking emails, attending meetings, and seeking clarification as needed.
• Use equipment and supplies safely and cost-effectively.
• Participate in performance improvement, risk management, and clinical research activities.
• Support hospital-wide and unit-specific initiatives (e.g., Planetree, Magnet, Stroke Certification).
• Contribute to the development of goals, policies, and standards of care aligned with the organization’s strategic plan.
• Complete required training and education, including department-specific requirements.
• Take responsibility for professional development and participate in nursing organizations.
• Comply with hospital attendance, staffing, and dress code policies.
• Perform other related duties to maintain a high level of service.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
• Valid Connecticut RN license.
• BSN strongly preferred.
• BLS certification required.
• Maintain a minimum of 6 contact hours annually.
• Minimum of 2 years of RN experience; acute care experience preferred.
