Job Summary

The Registered Nurse leads the health care team, providing professional nursing care according to established standards, policies, and procedures. The role involves demonstrating leadership, maintaining flexibility, and treating colleagues and patients with respect.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Learns and applies Kaiser Permanente’s policies and procedures, principles of responsibilities, and relevant state, federal, and local laws.

  • Serves as a leader of the health care team, delegating tasks appropriately and holding subordinates accountable.

  • Understands and adheres to the scope of practice, escalating issues as necessary.

  • Communicates effectively using various strategies, including the chain of command and issue escalation, to achieve intended outcomes.

  • Participates in problem identification and resolution, mentoring, orienting, and coaching others.

  • Shares responsibility and authority with subordinates, prioritizing and delegating work assignments to ensure completion of patient care activities.

  • Complies with regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and standards of practice.

  • Develops and implements individualized plans of care that reflect the nursing process, ensuring multidisciplinary planning, consultation, and education.

  • Maintains patient safety by monitoring progress, revising plans as needed, and ensuring optimal pain control and patient comfort.

  • Ensures patient understanding of discharge instructions and educates patients and families about outpatient medical management plans.

  • Documents accurately, legibly, dated, and timed, reflecting the nursing process and interventions and evaluations.

  • Utilizes computer systems effectively for optimal patient care.

  • Discusses patient findings and progress with physicians and other members of the healthcare team.

  • Participates in departmental performance improvement activities.

  • Adheres to LMP Workplace Safety principles and practices, applying standard precautions, and maintaining a safe environment.

  • Provides courteous, respectful, and compassionate care to patients and families, ensuring confidentiality and a clean, orderly, and functional work environment.

  • Responds promptly to call lights, alarms, and patient requests, making appropriate referrals and facilitating access to resources.

  • Acts as a resource, preceptor, and mentor to new employees, registry, students, and other team members.

  • Attends mandatory meetings, in-services, and staff meetings, actively participating in professional development.

  • Assesses current and future unit learning needs and develops an annual education plan.

  • Keeps informed of unit activities and makes recommendations for change.

  • Adheres to the attendance program, reporting to assigned areas promptly and being present and available for shifts.

  • Supports a collaborative Labor-Management Partnership environment through unit-based teams.

  • Organizes work to minimize overtime usage and assists in systems improvement.

  • Utilizes payroll and non-payroll resources to their maximum potential.

Experience

  • Minimum six (6) months of experience required in an acute or sub-acute facility within the last three (3) years.

  • Registered Nurse License (California)

  • Basic Life Support
