Job Summary

The Registered Nurse leads the health care team, providing professional nursing care according to established standards, policies, and procedures. Demonstrating leadership and flexibility, the nurse collaborates with the team, adheres to regulatory requirements, and ensures patient safety.

About the Role

This position requires a minimum of one year recent full-time equivalent experience in mother/baby care or successful completion of a KP FCC training program within the last 12 months. The Registered Nurse must hold a valid California Registered Nurse License and be certified in Neonatal Resuscitation Program and Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a leader of the health care team, delegating tasks appropriately and demonstrating accountability.
  • Escalates issues as necessary and participates in problem identification and resolution.
  • Mentors, orients, and coaches others in unit-specific operations and patient care activities.
  • Shares responsibility and authority with subordinates and holds them accountable for performance.
  • Champions new ideas and leads the change process.
  • Utilizes communication strategies including chain of command and issue escalation to achieve intended outcomes.
  • Complies with regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
  • Develops and/or contributes to the individualized plan of care reflecting assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the plan.
  • Maintains patient safety by ensuring adherence to the five rights, preventing patient falls, decubitus prevention, and nosocomial infections.
  • Ensures optimal pain control and patient comfort, addressing patient anxieties, fears, or concerns.
  • Ensures patient understanding of discharge instructions and medication purposes, side effects, and administration instructions.
  • Documents accurately, legibly, dated, and timed, reflecting the nursing process and interventions and evaluations taken.
  • Utilizes computer systems effectively and efficiently for optimal patient care.
  • Communicates comprehensively with physicians and other members of the healthcare team regarding patient findings and progress toward outcomes.
  • Participates in departmental performance improvement activities, planning, measuring/monitoring, assessing, and improving.
  • Adheres to LMP Workplace Safety principles and practices, applies standard precautions, and maintains a safe environment.
  • Prompts answers to call lights, alarms, and patient requests, facilitates the customer's ability to utilize resources, and maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Provides an optimal patient care experience by actively listening to the needs of patients and family members and taking responsibility for meeting those needs.
  • Works collaboratively with the team, demonstrating flexibility, cooperation, and willingness to assist others.
  • Takes accountability for own actions and accepts constructive criticism.
  • Acts as a resource, preceptor, and mentor to new employees, registry, students, and other team members.
  • Attends all mandatory meetings, in-services, and staff meetings as required, actively participates in other departmental professional development.
  • Organizes work to minimize the use of overtime and assists in systems improvement.
  • Utilizes payroll and non-payroll resources to their maximum potential.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse License (California)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program
  • Basic Life Support from American Heart Association

Qualifications

No specific educational qualifications are required for this position. However, basic qualifications include a minimum of one year recent full-time equivalent experience in mother/baby care or successful completion of a KP FCC training program within the last 12 months. The Registered Nurse must also hold a valid California Registered Nurse License and be certified in Neonatal Resuscitation Program and Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.
