About the role

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at Cal Poly Humboldt is seeking applications for a Staff Psychotherapist or Psychologist with expertise in providing psychotherapy and outreach services to our student population. This recruitment aims to establish a pool of qualified candidates for potential future appointments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide time-limited individual and couples therapy
  • Offer group therapy and crisis intervention
  • Conduct intake assessments
  • Engage in outreach and consultation
  • Supervise practicum and postgraduate residents (depending on qualifications)
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure efficient and productive teamwork

Requirements

  • A master’s or doctorate degree in clinical or counseling psychology or applied social work
  • California license-eligible (Psychologist, LMFT, or LCSW) by date of appointment
  • Experience in time-limited psychotherapy and crisis intervention with young adults
  • Competence in assessing and treating AOD issues, trauma, anxiety, and depression
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to document cases promptly and efficiently
  • Cultural humility and responsiveness to diverse student populations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensure to practice psychotherapy in California
  • Two years of post-licensure psychotherapy provision
  • Experience in university counseling centers
  • Specialization in time-limited therapy approaches
  • Experience leading psychotherapy or psycho-educational groups
  • Experience in trauma-informed and holistic care
  • Skills in suicide risk assessment and management
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)

Professional Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology or Applied Social Work

  • Experience in Time-Limited Psychotherapy and Crisis Intervention with Young Adults

  • Ability to Keep Up with the Fast Pace of the Center and Maintain Timely Case Documentation

Benefits

The position is a temporary (non-tenure track) faculty position with an academic year (10-month) contract. The expected salary range is $6,221-$7,083, paid over 12 months. For more information on pay distribution, see the Explanation of the Distribution of Pay.

Schedule

The position may be part- or full-time, contingent upon departmental need and budget. Full-time work is generally preferred.
