Staff Psychologist (Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program)

About the role

The position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Eligibility requirements are determined by VHA policy and must be met within four months of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a Staff Psychologist within the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) under the VA Northern California Health Care System Mental Health Product Line.
• Function as part of an interdisciplinary team and apply advanced strategies to a full range of patient problems.
• Provide direct psychological patient care, including intake evaluation, diagnostic assessments, psychotherapy, and patient education.
• Assess crisis situations, formulate crisis plans, provide crisis interventions, and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Perform clinically indicated evaluations for outpatient and inpatient populations, provide therapeutic interventions, and consult with medical center staff on patient care issues.
• Develop person-centered, culturally sensitive treatment plans to address mental health needs of patients, conduct evaluations for complex cases, and comply with performance measures.
• Supervise psychology interns and other trainees, attend training programs, and participate in selection panels.
• Document clinical work and respond to patient requests for release of records, link services, and make appropriate referrals.
• Attend annual training programs and participate in relevant committees.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree in psychology from an APA, PCSAS, or CPA accredited program.
• Successfully completed a respecialization program meeting both conditions: (a) the program must be in an APA or CPA accredited doctoral program, and (b) the specialty must be consistent with the assignment.
• Have a doctoral degree awarded between 1951 and 1978 from a regionally-accredited institution with a dissertation primarily psychological in nature.
• Have an equivalent one-year supervised internship experience in a site acceptable to the doctoral program.
• Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth.
• Be proficient in spoken and written English.

Qualifications

• Experience: At least 2 years as a professional psychologist, with at least one year equivalent to the GS-12 level.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of professional psychological treatments and assessment methods, ability to design and implement effective treatment strategies, ability to incorporate new clinical procedures, ability to conduct research activities, and ability to provide professional advice and consultation.

• Knowledge of professional psychological treatments to the full range of patient populations.
• Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health.

Pay

GS-13 Staff Psychologist - Full Performance Level: $82,557.00 to $137,457.00 Annual Salary

Schedule

Full Time: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
