Staff Product Manager- Vehicle Observability
About the role
The Staff Product Manager for Vehicle Observability owns the product strategy for GM’s in-vehicle observability capabilities across logs, metrics, traces, and analytics. This role defines the roadmap, success measures, and adoption strategy for how GM captures, curates, and uses vehicle data to improve engineering insight, product quality, and customer outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Define and lead the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for Vehicle Observability across vehicle compute platforms and telemetry domains.
- Align product direction across engineering, platform, diagnostics, service, analytics, and product teams to ensure observability capabilities support both technical and business outcomes.
- Own top-level product KPIs, SLOs, and adoption metrics, and drive measurable progress against them.
- Lead prioritization and execution for platform improvements such as better signal quality, reduced noisy logging, stronger metrics and traces, and more scalable instrumentation patterns.
- Drive product decisions across platform tradeoffs including usability, cost efficiency, and long-term architectural direction, including the current mixed-environment strategy across Grafana Cloud, DataDog, and Heap.
- Ensure observability data is translated into actionable insight for engineering while maintaining clear separation between deep engineering telemetry and curated service-facing outputs.
- Communicate strategy, roadmap, tradeoffs, and business impact clearly to senior leadership and partner teams, using influence and strong judgment to build alignment across complex stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Data Analytics, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- 8+ years of product management experience or relevant industry experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to drive alignment and build consensus with cross-functional stakeholders.
- A can-do attitude to ensure we find a way to move forward despite challenges and ambiguity.
Qualifications
- Experience with connected vehicles, telematics, or IoT platforms.
- Strong technical fluency in observability concepts such as logs, metrics, traces, alerting, dashboards, and telemetry pipelines.
- Experience launching products in global markets.
- Understanding of data privacy, governance, or regulatory frameworks related to vehicle data.
Skills & Abilities (Preferred)

Pay
The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area. The salary range for this role is $134,700 to $245,000. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
Schedule
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office three times per week, at minimum. This position will be located in Mountain View, CA or Warren, MI.
