About the role

This position involves delivering patient-centered, team-based care within the scope of practice. Responsibilities include collaborating with mid-level providers, registered nurses, and medical assistants for physical and psychosocial assessments, diagnosis, and management of health and illness needs. The primary responsibility is direct patient care, covering both acute and chronic conditions. Additionally, the Staff Physician assists the Chief Medical Officer in supervising and consulting with nurse practitioners.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, patient-centered and values-based primary medical care.
  • Effectively use huddles, care gap reports, and integration work to meet treatment and preventative care measures.
  • Provide direct education to patients regarding their medical conditions and treatment options.
  • Appropriately and completely refer patients to specialty care as needed.
  • Prescribe and/or dispense medications as appropriate.
  • Efficiently and timely manage and respond to requests for medication refills, document completion, patient messages, and general questions.
  • Collaborate with behavioral health, dental, optometry, and other healthcare team members as appropriate for integration, consultation, referral, and follow-up.
  • Absorb responsibility for the clinical situation if necessary.
  • Serve as a leader in problem-solving to see late arriving patients and those with urgent needs.
  • Collaborate with the medical management team to improve workflows, cycle times, and the overall patient experience.
  • Assist mid-level health care providers in the assessment and treatment of patients as necessary.
  • Lead the care team in problem-solving to see late arriving patients and patients with urgent needs.
  • Collaborate with the medical management team to maximize patient appointment access.
  • Assume leadership role with the care team.
  • Promote positive interactions within the team and engage members to achieve quality, patient experience, and access goals.
  • Collaborate with the medical management team to develop support staff to their highest potential.
  • Attend in-services and conferences to continue professional growth and development.

Qualifications

  • Education: Doctor of Medicine Degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree.
  • Licenses / Certifications: Board certified primary care physician; valid and current California Medical license, DEA number, and BLS certification; Active NPI.
  • Experience: Two or more years of experience in a community health center; bilingual (English/Spanish).
