Staff Photonic Integrated Circuit Design Engineer

About the Role

The broad job responsibilities include hands-on work in the design of high-speed integrated photonic components, implementing the designs through fabrication, and testing the resulting circuits to verify performance.

Responsibilities

• Design optical components and photonic integrated circuits.
• Implement designs through fabrication processes.
• Test and verify the performance of resulting photonic circuits.
• Use optical and electronic modeling and simulation to design electro-optical devices.
• Specify, design, and generate lithographic masks and patterns.
• Work with large datasets and perform statistical analysis.
• Present data and ideas to a diverse audience.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of optical components design, epitaxy, fabrication, and component/system-level tests.
• Familiarity with complicated photonic integrated circuit layout methodology and EDA tools.
• Strong background with semiconductor optical devices such as lasers, detectors, modulators, and other integrated waveguide devices.
• Fundamental understanding of optical communication systems, DWDM transmission systems, photonic integrated components, electronic (integrated) circuits, and signal analysis and processing.
• Ability to work with large datasets and use statistical analysis tools.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or a related discipline with emphasis in optical communications and optical components.
• M.S./M.Eng. in Electrical Engineering or Photonics, with 0-5 years of relevant experience.
