Staff Pharmacist PRN - Inpatient

About the Role

Vanderbilt University Hospital is hiring a Staff Pharmacist PRN to focus on an inpatient adult patient population in the Central Pharmacy. This position provides leadership in optimal product preparation and dosing of medications, and provision of patient-specific drug information. The role supports quality relationships with healthcare professionals, families, and patients, and involves ongoing education and training.

Shift opportunities are available on day, evening, and night shifts.

Responsibilities

• Reviews drug orders and/or prescriptions to ensure the safe, appropriate, and cost-effective use of medications.
• Provides outstanding patient care by optimizing medication preparation and resolving medication-related problems.
• Prepares and dispenses medications, provides drug information, and manages medication therapy in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and hospital policy.
• Supervises the activities of assigned support personnel and verifies the accuracy and appropriateness of all medications prepared by support personnel prior to dispensing.
• Aids in the prevention and reporting of medication errors and adverse drug reactions according to policy.
• Provides patient-specific dosing and drug information.
• Engages in mentoring and coaching support personnel.

Technical Capabilities

• Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance & Compliance (Advanced): Possesses specialized knowledge of appropriate rules and regulations, applying them in complex situations. Demonstrates expertise in process improvement and quality assurance techniques.
• Pharmaceutical Computer Literacy (Novice): Proficient in using fundamental features of pharmaceutical computer applications to support patient care.
• Pharmaceutical Drug Preparation & Dispensing (Novice): Proficient in reviewing, preparing, and dispensing prescribed medications, including aseptic technique for compounding sterile preparations (CSPs).
• Medication Management (Intermediate): Demonstrates proficiency in medication management, including clinical appropriateness, dosing, monitoring laboratory results, and providing drug information to healthcare professionals and patients.
• Mentoring & Coaching (Novice): Provides constructive training and mentoring to others, offering positive direction and feedback.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (required).
• Tennessee Pharmacist License (LIC-Pharmacist License - Tennessee).
• Less than 1 year of relevant work experience.
