Staff Pharmacist

Primary Health Solutions (PHS) is seeking Staff Pharmacists to work within an integrated, team-based care model to improve patient outcomes. The PHS Provider Team includes medical doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clinical pharmacists, dentists, hygienists, and licensed behavioral health clinicians.

Responsibilities

• Prescription Order Review and Clarification:
  • Verifies source of prescription prior to dispensing.
  • Contacts physician offices for clarification or questions on orders or prescriptions.
  • Provides clinical advice to physicians regarding medication treatments.
  • Obtains necessary information from physicians to ensure accurate and safe dispensing.
  • Resolves prescription discrepancies.
• Prescription Dispensing:
  • Takes prescription orders over the telephone from physicians or their agents.
  • Verifies correct drug, patient, route of administration, dosage, strength, and administration schedule.
  • Includes appropriate manufacturer or patient education materials with dispensed drugs.
  • Obtains insurance authorizations and manages insurance denials as required.
  • Completes quality control and DUR checks on prescriptions, adhering to all policies, procedures, and laws.
  • Provides patient-specific consultation on medication regimens.
  • Maintains records and computer entry of prescriptions and patient information.
  • Documents patient interventions in clinical and non-clinical records.
  • Reports adverse events to appropriate collectors (e.g., MedWatch or manufacturers) in a timely manner.
• Oversight of Pharmacy Safety:
  • Responsible for the overall safety and security of the facility and its operations.
  • Maintains accountability for general supervision of pharmacy staff.
  • Provides direct supervision of dispensing and medication preparation processes.
  • Ensures compliance with FDA mandates, manufacturer restrictions, and all federal, state, and local laws regarding drug dispensing and patient privacy.
• Other Responsibilities:
  • Serves as supervising pharmacist in the temporary absence of the Pharmacist-In-Charge.
  • Partners with the Regional Sales Manager in business development activities.
  • Develops and conducts in-service presentations for referral sources.
  • Maintains dependability, confidentiality, and upholds patient rights.
  • Establishes and maintains effective professional relationships with prescribers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Pharm.D. or BS Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
• Current and active pharmacist license in good standing in the state of Tennessee.
• Successful completion of state pharmacy board examination.
• Maintains continuing education requirements.
• Three to five years of experience in pharmacy practice; one year of experience with a patient management program preferred.

Skills

• Comprehends federal, state, and local laws and regulations applicable to pharmacy practice.
• Familiar with retail pharmacy workflow concepts.
• Full understanding of controlled substance rules and regulations (DEA, state, and local).
• Detailed knowledge of REMS programs relevant to specialty pharmaceutical products.
• Understands the limited distribution process for specialty pharmaceuticals.
• Sufficient knowledge, training, and expertise in pharmacotherapeutics to oversee pharmacy patient management programs.
• Leadership skills: time management, organizational skills, professionalism, communication (oral and written), prioritization, delegation, and a friendly, caring demeanor.
