Staff Pharmacist 2
About the role
This Pharmacist 2 position is an integral member of the healthcare team and is mainly responsible for clinical activities such as providing drug information, screening prescription appropriateness, making interventions, recommendations, consultations, patient interactions, prescription processing, and serving as a preceptor to pharmacy students and residents. There may be operational needs to provide prescription dispensing processes including drug distribution, dispensing, compounding, maintaining robotics, and inventory management. This position fosters excellent interdepartmental relationships and provides quality and cost-effective pharmaceutical care to all patients.
Responsibilities
- 80% - Participates in Clinical Activities and Customer Service
- 10% - Drug Distribution
- 10% - Participates in Administrative Activities, Inventory Management, Pharmacy Maintenance and other duties as assigned
Requirements
- California Pharmacist License eligible and possess a valid license at the time of hire
- PharmD, or equivalent training
- Recent outpatient pharmacy experience working as a Registered Pharmacist
- Experience performing QA and order verification
- Patient counseling experience
- Ability to oversee technicians and ancillary staff
- Knowledge and understanding of current California Pharmacy Law and other Federal Regulations (e.g. DEA) effecting the practice of pharmacy
- Working knowledge of and skill to apply practices, principles and techniques of patient care related to area of expertise
- Current knowledge of pharmacy terminology, generic/brand names, abbreviations and drugs on current hospital formulary
- Working knowledge of Medi-Cal Formulary, Medicare B, other third-party Billing Systems
Qualifications
- Other State Pharmacist Licensure as required/requested for business needs (obtain within 6 months of request)
- Experience working in UCDMC Outpatient Pharmacy or a Health-System/Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy
- Experience working in a Specialty Pharmacy
- Two (2) years of recent Outpatient Pharmacy experience working as a Registered Pharmacist
- Working knowledge of non-sterile compounding of medications
- Computer skills that facilitate medication order entry and other basic clinical software programs
- Soft skills, problem solving skills, strong communication skills, teamwork skills.
- Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations and instructions to, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed, or who may not speak English
