Staff Nurse (RN/LVN)

About the Role

Registered Nurses (RN) and Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN) provide essential support to physicians in the Pediatrics department of Midland Community Healthcare Services. They deliver excellent customer service while assessing, implementing, and evaluating patient care. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate medical records, complying with legal and regulatory requirements, and contributing to quality improvement and safety initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Assess the patient’s chief complaint and prepare them for the provider visit.
• Document additional information not captured during initial triage.
• Stock and maintain clean patient rooms, nurses’ stations, and laboratory areas.
• Anticipate provider needs to ensure an efficient, high‑quality patient experience.
• Prepare and administer medications, immunizations, vaccines, and shots per provider orders.
• Educate patients on treatment procedures, medications, diets, and provider instructions.
• Collect, label, and prepare blood, urine, fecal, and other laboratory specimens for testing.
• Assist with supply inventory, emergency supplies, equipment functionality, and oxygen tank levels.
• Follow up on patient calls, lab results, referrals, prescription requests, and questions.
• Clean and sterilize instruments; dispose of contaminated supplies in accordance with OSHA and clinic policy.
• Supervise or direct less‑skilled nursing or healthcare personnel as needed (RN only).
• Coordinate with the healthcare team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
• Comply with OSHA safety regulations, maintain biohazard containers, ensure proper sharps usage, and use PPE appropriately.
• Schedule patient referrals and educate patients about the referral process.
• Review records for completeness, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
• Maintain patient charts in the electronic medical records system.
• Participate in quality improvement, auditing, safety, and compliance activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Clinic Manager or Charge Nurse.

Qualifications – Registered Nurse (RN)

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (required).
• Active Texas Board of Nursing license in good standing.
• Current CPR certification.
• 1–3 years of customer service experience preferred.
• No felony convictions on background screening.
• Negative drug screen result.

Qualifications – Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)

• High School Diploma or GED (required).
• Active Texas Board of Nursing license in good standing.
• Current CPR certification.
• 1–3 years of customer service experience preferred.
• No felony convictions on background screening.
• Negative drug screen result.
• Bilingual ability preferred.

Critical Skills and Abilities

• Customer‑service oriented.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn proprietary medical software.
• Effective time management and task prioritization.
• Cultural competency to interact with diverse populations.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• RN: Indirect supervision of less‑skilled nursing staff and medical assistants.
• LVN: No supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment / Conditions

• BBP Class I – routine exposure to bloodborne pathogens; PPE and training provided.
• Physical demands include lifting a minimum of 25 lb independently, standing, walking, and moving equipment.
• Vision, writing, speaking, and typing abilities required for patient interaction and documentation.
• Compliance with EEOC accommodations for disabilities as applicable.
