About the role
Banyan Treatment Centers is seeking a qualified and compassionate Staff Nurse (LVN) to join their team at Banyan Palm Springs in Cathedral City, CA.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care under the supervision of an RN and medical provider in accordance with protocols and scope of practice
- Avoid administering medications and treatments without proper authorization
- Assist in completing nursing assessments and admission documentation within established timeframes, with assessments reviewed and co-signed by an RN as required
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed; provide medication education as directed
- Maintain a watchful eye on patient medical status, report changes promptly, and assist in initiating appropriate interventions, referrals, or emergency response
- Monitor patients for psychiatric symptoms, medication effectiveness, and safety concerns, reporting changes to the RN, provider, or treatment team as appropriate
- Apply sound clinical judgment in crisis situations, including suicide risk awareness, de-escalation, and patient safety interventions, escalating as required
- Accurately transcribe, document, and implement provider orders, including verbal orders when permitted
- Collaborate with physicians, psychiatrists, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary team members to support integrated patient care
- Maintain timely, accurate documentation in the electronic medical record in accordance with licensure, accreditation, and organizational standards
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, Joint Commission standards, and applicable regulatory requirements
- Support medication management and controlled substance processes in collaboration with Compliance and nursing leadership
- Participate in in-service education, department meetings, and staff meetings as required
Requirements
- Active, unrestricted LPN or LVN license in California
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Strong clinical assessment, documentation, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in high-stress or emergency situations
- Demonstrated understanding of patient confidentiality, ethical practice, and regulatory compliance
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary treatment team
Qualifications
- Minimum two years of nursing experience, with experience in SUD treatment and co-occurring mental health disorders in an inpatient setting strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of nursing standards of care for patients with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and co-occurring diagnoses
- Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems
- Lived experience with recovery is highly valued
